The List Eating & Drinking Guide 2007/2008 - Hitlist
....great value, imaginative food. The colourful interior ....is reflected in a creative menu...The extensive wine list is as eclectic as the menu, both in origin and price. Despite the evident talent in the kitchen and beautiful presentation, Marynka... boasts a refreshing lack of pretension. It is well worth climbing on a train to find this culinary gem, which is as good as the best city centre establishments, without the price.
The Herald, 28th January 2007
Style: Relaxed and cheerful.....
Since opening in 2000, Marynka has established a reputation for reliable and imaginative cooking coupled with efficient and professional service. Worth a trip from the city centres.
Sunday Times 4th June 2006
The menu was concise..... all of
it seasonal and as indigenous as the locale could manage, expertly
cooked and presented with a refreshing absence of frill or overelaboration.
Marynka is a restaurant run with
love, care and a firm culinary confidence, serving food both
classically comforting and boldly surprising.
Scotsman 28th January 2006
Marynka is an unpretentious restaurant
that prides itself in good quality, locally sourced, fresh seasonal
ingredients which reflect an array of cuisines from around the
world....In the hands of owner Catriona Staddon and her fellow
chefs Lee Murdoch and Doug Elliman, it is a stunning success.
The reason Marynka has been consistently
successful since it opened in August 2000 is very clear: taking
the best that Scotland's natural larder has to offer and using
it as the basis of adventurous yet approachable dishes.
The List Eating & Drinking Guide 2006/2007 - Hitlist
Marynka is a year-round reminder
of the summery warmth so often absent in this grey country of
ours. The kitchen produces assured, imaginative cooking worthy
of the best city-centre establishments. The demeanour of the
staff is equally sunny without being intrusive, the atmosphere
relaxed, and the prices do nothing to dampen the feel-good mood.
The extensive wine list, which includes helpful, chatty tasting
notes, draws equally on northern and southern hemispheres.

Scotland the Best
Stylish, bright, modern town
restaurant with bistro-cool lunches and serious dinners.
Business A.M., 3 April 2002
This is a kitchen confident of
its ability to turn out interesting dishes without relying on
meat and fish....the food was extremely good....we dined royally.

Just standing outside Marynka
...cheers you up no end....the whole effect is like stumbling upon
a warm jewelled interior of a box....its confident, without being
showy.
The steak was superb, a perfectly
chosen bit of meat, cooked precisely as I''d asked. It was one
of the two best steaks of the year.

It is encouraging to see a new
breed of small town restaurant....sweeping all pretentious clutter
off the menu and coming up with an intelligently manageable
offering....delivering the most memorable, satisfying and soul
caressing food you are likely to eat. Marynka has the
feel of a proud, well-run, family business. In the dessert
department, Marynka radiates confidence.
